Daniel 12:1-13

This week we finished the book of Daniel. The first half of our lesson was spent reviewing the content of the entire book, leading up to the final chapter in which Daniel is given a simple promise to override them all: you will be resurrected! Study conducted July 5, 2017.

Daniel 10:21b-11:45

This week we covered the bulk of the final vision given to Daniel. This is probably the most confusing chapter of Daniel, because it takes a certain knowledge of Greek history to understand most of what goes on. In short, chapter eleven makes clear to Daniel that a lot more will still happen before the kingdom is established, and the message is to trust God through it! Study conducted June 28, 2017.

Daniel 10:1-21a

This week we covered the introduction to the final vision of Daniel, which lasts three chapters. This is one of the more confusing chapters of Daniel, with a series of odd angelic interactions leading up the explanation of what is to come in the latter days, which will be discussed in the next lesson. Study conducted June 21, 2017.

Daniel 9:20-27

This week we covered the 70 Weeks prophecy. This is one of the most important prophecies in the bible as it predicts with uncommon specificity when “the messiah prince” would come to Jerusalem. For us Christians, we think that messiah prince was Jesus, but even Christians are divided about how to reckon this prophecy with history. Regardless, it ends up interesting! Study conducted June 8, 2017.

Daniel 9:1-19

This week we covered the first half Daniel Chapter 9. This might rightly be called a brief study in prayer. Daniel prays earnestly after reading the prophet Jeremiah. This prayer is comprised of two main themes: God you are wonderful and merciful, and we your people have sinned egregiously. Study conducted May 23, 2017

Daniel 8:1-27

This week we covered Daniel Chapter 8. We looked at the vision Daniel saw at the Ulai canal concerning a ram and a goat fighting which predicted Alexander the Great’s conquest of Persia. Study conducted on May 17, 2017.

Daniel 7:1-7:28 Part 2

This week we took our second look at chapter 7. After briefly overviewing the vision we focused in on the heavenly courtroom and the fourth beast. We looked at the relevant texts in the new testament that relate to the Son of Man and “the beast” from Revelation 13 and I presented the case that there must be a gap of time, in which we are living, between the the fourth beast and the fourth beast’s ten horns. Study conducted on May 4, 2017.

Daniel 7:1-7:28 Part 1

This week we took our first look at Daniel chapter 7. The historical narrative is over and we now enter the prophetic visions section. In this chapter Daniel sees a vision of four beasts and a heavenly courtroom. The recurring phrase that keeps bringing things to a close in this vision is the same one we’ve been seeing through this whole book. The idea is this: the God who’s kingdom is everlasting, who’s reign will never end. As these four beasts, which represent the rise and fall of various historical kingdoms, there is one kingdom that keeps popping up to defy them all: that of YHWH. We did a broad sweep over the whole chapter, and dug into the first three beasts. Next week we’ll dig in deep to the fourth beast and the heavenly court-room. Study conducted on April 26, 2017.

Daniel 6:1-6:28

This week we looked at Chapter 6 of Daniel, where Darius the Mede, Gobryas, has an encounter with a pride (pun intended). This passage is often erroneously titled “Daniel in the Lion’s Den” but since you literally never “see” Daniel in the Lion’s den, the proper title would be “Darius And the Lion’s Den.” This story is all about Darius’s confrontation with the God who sets up and deposes kings and kingdoms, and the God who’s kingdom is everlasting, who’s reign will never end. Unfortunately, the audio was unusable from this week, but the study notes are still available for your viewing/using pleasure. Study conducted on April 12, 2017.

Daniel 5:1-5:31

This week we looked at Chapter 5 of Daniel, where Belshazzar, Nebuchadnezzar’s descendant, has a direct encounter with the God Yahweh, but does not humble himself as Nebuchadnezzar eventually did. He sees a vision of a hand writing on the wall, and Daniel comes to interpret the vision. Study conducted on March 16, 2017.

Daniel 4:1-4:37

This week we looked at Chapter 4 of Daniel, the part of the story where Nebuchadnezzar finally gets it. He has another vision, one of a tree, and Daniel interprets that vision, and then it comes to pass. The last verse sums up the whole point of Daniel, the whole point of the Bible really, “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.” Study conducted on March 8, 2017.

Daniel 3:1-3:30

This week we looked at Chapter 3 of Daniel, the story of Nebuchadnezzar’s feeble attempt to be more powerful, wrathful, or praiseworthy than God. He failed on all three counts. Study conducted on March 1, 2017.

Daniel 2:25-2:49

This week we looked at the second half of chapter two, in which King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream is revealed and interpreted by Daniel. We talked about some of the common interpretations and explanations of the dream as well as the dispensational view that Stephen takes. Study conducted on February 15, 2017.

Daniel 1:20-2:24

This week we looked at the first half of chapter two, in which King Nebuchadnezzar has a troubling dream and challenges his sorcerers and magicians to tell him the dream and its interpretation. Daniel, ever the diplomatic sort, persuades the king to give him some time and that night, God reveals the dream to Daniel. Next week we will look at the dream and its interpretation. Study conducted on February 8, 2017.

Daniel 1:3-1:19

This week we covered most of the first chapter of Daniel, which begins the conflict between the King of Babylon and the true King, YHWH. Daniel and his three friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah are given new names, asked to break their dietary restrictions, and trained in the ways of the Chaldeans as attempts to undermine the God of Israel, but in each case, the God of Israel proves more powerful. Study conducted on February 1, 2017.
