AOC is Right! The World is Going to End in 12 Years Because of Climate Change

What Happened Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that the world is going to end in 12 years because of climate change, and the right excoriated her for it, mocked her relentlessly, and pointed out how arbitrary and untrue it is. But those conservatives are wrong! AOC’s statement is very true if understood for its true meaning. What She Meant I’m all about “authorial intent” on this blog, and I understand what the “author” of those words (AOC) meant by them, unlike my fellow conservatives. They must be understood from a post-modern and relativistic standpoint. To clarify AOC’s true and accurate meaning, we … [Read more]

Can Women Teach?

Introduction I’m having this conversation more and more. DTS Houston held a special panel entitled “Rediscovering God’s Vision for Male/Female Partnerships in Ministry.” It was Moderated by Dr. Sandra Glahn, and filled with various people, half DTS profs, and half friends of the seminary. Since that panel happened I’ve had the conversation about the question of “women pastors” about 20 times, and I think the time has come for a blog post about it. It’s a big one in conservative Christian culture. It’s coming to a head, and the times, they are a changing. I will address it this way: … [Read more]

Kick Him Out of Church!

Two Introductory Stories My mom and dad fondly tell the story of one of the first times my dad visited my great-grandmother’s old, back-country Oklahoma, Pentecostal church. My mom and dad were dating at the time, and my dad was not familiar with Pentecostal churches at all, so this event really stuck out to him. Reformation Musings

500 years ago today, Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses (arguments, or grievances) to the doors of Wittenberg churches. You can find all kinds of information on Luther, so I won’t bore you with history. I don’t so much want to talk about Martin, the brash, charge into battle, say what’s needed to win an argument, lover of men and the Bible, concerned with grace and grace alone as the means of salvation, monk, as I do want to talk about the reformation. What has it brought and where is it now? There were many reformers, such as Jan Hus, … [Read more]

Starts with an E ends with a Y and WILL MESS YOU UP!

Starts with an E ends with a Y and WILL MESS YOU UP! That’s right. You know what I’m talking about. It’s a little pill your friends might make you swallow, and you wonder to yourself if it’s a good idea at the time, but then you get to where you can’t resist it, and you have to keep going back because of the intoxicating effects. You can’t get enough of it. You start craving it more and more, until finally you overdose, and those same friends have to hold you back from starting fights and convince you that the … [Read more]
