We spent 6 months working through the minor prophets, verse-by-verse. Enjoy!

Lesson 16: Malachi

This week we sang and discussed “Abide With Me” by Henry Lyte. (It was a surprisingly difficult hymn for me to learn and play, so it’s a little rough in my opinion.) After that we reviewed all of our minor prophets and then covered the book of Malachi! Lesson given on April 8, 2018.

Lesson 15: Zechariah Part 4

This week we sang and discussed the hymn “How Firm a Foundation.” It was not our best showing as far as singing goes, but I think the discussion of the theology of biblical texts in hymns was worthwhile! We then continued finished our study of Zechariah, seeing such messianic passages as the “riding on a colt, the foal of a donkey” passage, and the allegory of the shepherd with two staffs. Lesson given on March 25, 2018.

Lesson 12: Zechariah Part 1

This week we sang and discussed the hymn “I Surrender All” and then began our study of Zechariah. It’s a tough book with lots of confusing imagery, so we made it through the first three chapters, and hope to finish it out in 3 lessons. Lesson given on February 25, 2018.

Lesson 10: Zephaniah

This week we sang and discussed “I Need Thee Every Hour” by Annie Hawks and then looked at the minor prophet Zephaniah. I would say Zephaniah is sort of the standard, summary or conglomeration of other prophets. Unfortunately, the camera didn’t work, so this video is the audio overlaid with the slides and images on screen that were being discussed at the time. Lesson given January 28, 2018.

Habakkuk, my favorite of the minor prophets, in which Habakkuk struggles with the revelation of the destruction of Israel by Babylon. Lesson given on January 21, 2018.

Lesson 6: Obadiah and Jonah

This week we continued our series on the Minor Prophets and studied Obadiah and Jonah and sang and discussed the hymn “O Come O Come Emmanuel,” author unknown. Obadiah, the shortest book in the Old Testament is a firm statement of judgment directed toward Edom, the nation descendant from Jacob’s brother Esau. Jonah is a narrative about Israel’s unrepentance of their idolatry told through the story of Jonah, representing Israel, and his resistance to the mercy of God being given to the city of Nineveh. Lesson given on December 3, 2017.

Lesson 3: Hosea Pt. 2

This week we finished Hosea and started on Joel. To be honest, it’s not my best lesson. I think I might have been more confusing than helpful. :-/ However, the hymn we discussed “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” by Martin Luther, was very good. So there’s that. Lesson given on November 5, 2017.
