(Yes, I know that’s a picture of a galaxy… throw me a bone here!) I first noticed it on How I Met Your Mother. Ted appeals to “the universe” quite often and talks quite often about how “the universe wants this to happen.” I thought it was funny at first, but it’s gone way beyond that. I hear this argument all the time and I heard it the other day. “If you had been born in a different country, you wouldn’t believe what you do.” The same logic gets applied in many different scenarios. Rather, there are a number of different arguments that attempt to explain the beginning of the world. In general these arguments can be divided into two main camps.
